…but all said and done, the Sebastian Schunke Group stole the show…
That´s Shanghai, Shanghai, China
Since more than 8 years composer and pianist Sebastian Schunke has created a new and unpredictable stile of a modern Latin Jazz influenced by European and experimental elements. After his Jazz Studies in New York City, Schunke moved to Berlin, the most innovating music city in Europe.
Schunke has recorded with his band four higly acclaimed CDs on which participate some of the best musicians from the US-Latin-Jazz Scene: Paquito de Rivera, John Benitez, Antonio Sanchez, Richie Flores, Pernell Saturnino, Yosvany Terry or Dafnis Prieto, but also upcoming stars from the experimental scenes from New York and Berlin, and finally some of the most interesting Cuban protagonists living in Europe. This intense mixing of culture and stiles makes the music of Schunke so special. So there is no wonder that he has already played with his group with enormous success on Festivals, in concert halls and clubs in China, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, Laos, the US and in several countries in Africa and Europe.
Now, Schunke brings his music to some of the finest music places at the West Coast. The band will present music of his CDs “Back in New York”, “Mouvement” and “Symbiosis”. The mix of musicians on this tour is more than special: we have two of the best Latin Jazz players of the west coast: Paul van Wageningen on drums and Peter Barshay on bass. We have one of the most interesting member of the experimental Jazz scene of New York who recorded twice with Schunke: Anders Nilsson on guitar and we have one of the leading talents of the emerging modern Berlin Scene: the Australian saxophone player Dan Freeman. So a truly international mix will surely lead to some unforgettable nights at the West Coast.
These special concerts are supported by the German Consulate General of San Francisco.
